DuPont Corian Enters the Jaguars Den

CorianWhile hospitals might not constitute as retail spaces, they do share some of the same generous vendors. DuPont Corian has recently donated sheets of colorful solid-surface material to the Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., creating an activity area called "the Jaguars Den" meant to offer respite from staid hospital rooms. The Jaguars Den is a concept developed by NHL Hall of Fame player Pat LaFontaine and the charitable organization he founded, the Companions in Courage Foundation. The Jaguars Den is patterned after Lions Dens at seven children’s hospitals nationwide.

Internet connection, video teleconferencing and flatscreen TVs add to the interactivity of the space, where kids can communicate with other children's hospitals or to their families at home. The Lion's Den is custom-designed to promote a cheerful look, with each of the brightly colored panels, chairs and tables all made entirely of DuPont Corian surfaces.

Says Thomas F. Schuler, vice president and general manager--DuPont Building Innovations: "With Corian, we not only add a splash of color to the children's environment, but due to its easy-to-clean, seamless surface, it also helps hospital staff with infection control, ultimately bettering the care these kids receive." Corian does in fact facilitate infection control, as defined in the Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities, meeting all 18 preferred characteristics.

Aside from that, I just think it's pretty cool they're getting involved. Go Corian!

One area often overlooked in the battle against the transfer of dangerous viruses and bacteria in medical environments are the ubiquitous keyboards and mice. Standard keyboards and mice can not be disinfected because germs collect around seams and under keys. Recently Man & Machine, Inc. released a new White Paper titled, “Minimizing Transmission of Infection Disease in Heath Care Environments by Use of Disinfectable PC Keyboards and Mice.” It can be viewed at: http://www.man-machine.com/whitepaper.htm
